The Power Of Gratitude
So far on my journey, gratitude has played an important role in helping me to achieve some of my goals. Gratitude is something we should all adopt to enrich our lives. To be successful, you need to be grateful first. As the saying goes; “Before you can accept more of what you want into your life, you need to be grateful for what you already have.”
It is human nature to want more, to strive for something better. This is good in that we should grow and develop just like any living creature if we are to create the life we want. A tree cannot produce fruit without first starting out as a seed and growing into a fruit-bearing tree. We need to constantly push ourselves, to step out of our comfort zones, in order to grow and achieve our goals.
Gratitude costs nothing, yet it can make a big difference in our lives. When we include gratitude in our journey of growth and development, it is inevitable that this growth will come more easily. The basis of this is the law of attraction, where, if we vibrate an energy of gratitude, more good things come our way.
Gratitude In Action
I mentioned in one of my previous posts on Mindset, that our results come from our thoughts. If we think negatively, we put all our energy into thinking about the things we lack in our lives. If we think positively, we put that energy into thinking about the things we have instead. If we then take action based on this mindset, we will create positive results. So how does being grateful and thinking positively make such a difference in your life?
- Being grateful makes you happy and content about the things you have. It reminds you of what’s important. It’s difficult to complain about minor things when you’re grateful that, for example, you and your family are healthy and have a roof over your head.
- Being grateful and thinking positively, motivates us to take action to create more of what makes us grateful in the first place. With this positive action comes positive results and with these results, we create faith in our abilities which further fuels our desire to take more action. We condition our minds to expect good things.
- Being grateful for the challenges we encounter and the mistakes we make daily is also important. Without these challenges we cannot grow and without these mistakes we cannot learn from them and move forward.
Developing Gratitude
So how can you become more grateful? Well it is important to make being grateful into a habit. Get into the habit of making a list of at least 5 things you are grateful for on a daily basis. By writing these things down on a regular basis and reading them to yourself, you will start to re-condition your mind with positive thoughts.
Some of the things I’m constantly grateful for are:
- My health
- My family
- My freedom
- My security
- The opportunities I have
- The things I’ve learned which are helping me to advance in my life.
What are you grateful for in your life? I’m keen to hear in the comments how gratitude has influenced your journey to creating wealth for success.

You are so right, Colin, an attitude of gratitude is very important. I remember a time when I was focusing upon my goal statements and I had a powerful dream one night where someone said to me that I needed to also express gratitude along with my goals. That dream was very convincing. Thanks.

Gratitude keeps us humble, focused and connected to what’s important. What better foundation to spring off and cease success. I like the idea of writing down what I should show gratitude for. It makes sense. The more senses that are involved in the gratitude process – the more meaningful it is.

G’day Colin,
Nicely done, Colin
Thankyou for expressing gratitude. It’s my favourite chapter in SLOA both to read and very frequently to listen – the MP 3. I set it to repeat while doing other tasks and let it sink in subliminally.
I did an blog on gratitude some time back, if you’d like to comment on it.

Too true David – it’s easy to say what you’re grateful for, but writing it down confirms it that little bit more.
Gratitude is king of success. Well said, Colin.
